Brett Powell
Co-Interim Chief Business Officer

Dr. Brett Powell was named co-interim chief business officer in May 2023. In this role, he oversees the offices of Business Services, Facilities, Financial Services, Investments, Planning & Budget, and Real Estate. In 2019, he joined Baylor as assistant vice president and controller and was named associate vice president of finance in April 2022. Since coming to Baylor, he has focused his attention on promoting the long-term financial health of the University through increased efficiencies and alignment of people and processes. During this time, Baylor’s balance sheet has grown to $4 billion and annual revenues have increased to approximately $1 billion.
After several years in public accounting, Dr. Powell’s career in higher education began in 1998, leading to various financial and administrative leadership roles that included over a decade as chief financial officer. He has also served in leadership roles to several state, regional, and national organizations.
Dr. Powell holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Louisiana Monroe, as well as an MBA and a doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He and his wife, Stacey, have one adult daughter and are active members of First Woodway Baptist Church.
